At Dook, we’ve always been drawn to the rhythm of the seasons. Living and working by the sea in Portobello, you can’t help but notice the change in the air, the way the wind sharpens, the light softens, and the evenings arrive a little earlier each day. It’s the time of year to coorie in, that lovely Scots word for nestling down, wrapping yourself in warmth, and finding comfort in life’s small, simple pleasures.

This autumn, we’ve gathered a collection that celebrates just that. From hand-poured candles and soft Scottish knits to our newest salt soap collaboration, each piece is made to help you slow down. So, grab yourself a cuppa, pop in to our shop for some coorie-ing in essentials - or order online! - and enjoy the calm that comes when the world outside grows cold and quiet.

Candles to Light the Dark

There’s something ritualistic about lighting a candle as the nights draw in. The glow, the scent. That small act of creating warmth in your home.

We’re delighted to bring back one of our best-loved candle: Cedar & Bitter Orange. Earthy and bright, it balances smoky wood with the sharp zest of citrus, like a walk through pine trees after rain. Made in collaboration with Scottish candlemakers Scott's Apothecary, we have created a uniquely scented candle using our unique blend of cedar and bitter orange essential oils.

And very soon, we’ll be adding a new candle to the collection: Mandarin, Rosemary, Bergamot & Cedar. Fresh, herbal, and quietly uplifting, it fills the room with a sense of calm focus, perfect for evenings spent reading, cooking, or just being still for a while.

Each candle is hand-poured in small batches using natural wax and essential oils, simple, sustainable, and designed to scent your space beautifully.

Introducing Our eteaket Collaboration: Sea Within Salt Soap and Tea

The sea has always been part of Dook’s story. It’s there in our name, our soaps, and our daily view from the workshop window. So when our friends at eteaket invited us to collaborate on something inspired by the sea, we jumped right in.

Together we’ve created Sea Within, a soothing herbal tea and a matching salt soap that share a coastal calm at their heart. Eteaket’s infusion blends rosehip peel, chamomile, birch leaves, rose petals, ginger, and spirulina, ingredients chosen to ground, restore and refresh. 

To pair with it, we’ve crafted a new Sea Within Salt Soap, tinted a soft blush pink and patterned with concentric circles, a gentle nod to ripples on the water.

It’s a wee reminder to pause. To make time for the small rituals that bring balance; running a bath, lighting a candle, pouring a cup of tea, and letting the world slow down around you.

Cosy Collaborations from British Makers

We’re lucky to work alongside some of the UK's most talented makers, craftspeople who, like us, believe in thoughtful design, sustainable materials, and small-batch quality.

Our autumn collection features a few of their beautiful pieces:

• Hot Water Bottles by Candy Coated Accessories: cheerful, colourful knits that chase away the chill, handmade by Fiona in North East Scotland. 
• Blankets by TBCo. These recycled wool blankets make a wonderful gift, designed in Edinburgh and created using innovative textile recycling processes.
• Beeswax Candles from the Northumberland Honey Company: naturally golden and lightly honey-scented. Simple, timeless, and comforting.
• Handmade Stoneware Candle Holders from Botanique Workshop in London work perfectly with our beeswax dinner candles.

• Alpaca Bed Socks from Pairs Scotland: unbelievably soft, Scottish-designed, and perfect for nights when frost sparkles on the windowpane.

• Coming soon - Triangle Neckerchiefs and Socks from Scarlet Knitwear: rich tones and soft wool to brighten grey days.

Every item has been made with care, the kind of things that last and that make life just a wee bit cosier.
